AAOIFI Shari’ah Standards to Be Translated into Uzbek

The AAOIFI Centre for Islamic Finance Development and Mezon Kengashi LLC signed an agreement on 17 May 2026 to prepare the official Uzbek-language translation of the AAOIFI Shari’ah Standards.

The project covers all 61 currently effective AAOIFI Shari’ah Standards, comprising approximately 1,200 pages. According to the announcement, the standards will be translated directly from Arabic into Uzbek in accordance with AAOIFI’s authorisation and quality assurance procedures.

The agreement represents another milestone in the strategic partnership between AAOIFI and Mezon Kengashi, which was established on 26 December 2025.

The initiative follows the adoption of legislation establishing a regulatory framework for Islamic banking in Uzbekistan. The Uzbek-language edition is intended to provide regulators, banks, legal practitioners and industry professionals with direct access to internationally recognised Islamic finance standards.

Amier Al-Mousy, Director of the AAOIFI Centre for Islamic Finance Development, said the agreement reflects the Centre’s mission to support the adoption and implementation of AAOIFI Standards across the CIS and Central Asia. He also described an authoritative Uzbek edition of the Standards as an important step in the development of Islamic finance in Uzbekistan.

Industry Impact

The translation project will make the 61 currently effective AAOIFI Shari’ah Standards available in Uzbek, providing the groups identified in the announcement—including regulators, banks, legal practitioners and industry professionals—with direct access to the standards in the Uzbek language.
