Central Bank of Egypt Issues Regulations for Digital Financial Identity and eKYC Services
The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has issued regulations governing the services of the Digital Financial Identity Platform, which is designed to enable banks to identify customers and verify their identities electronically through Electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) services.
The new regulations establish the framework for providing Digital Financial Identity services through the CBE platform. The framework covers the identification and electronic verification of bank customers, as well as the electronic updating of customer identity information.
According to the CBE, the platform will support digital banking procedures, including the electronic acceptance of terms and conditions and electronic authentication for banking transactions and related instructions. The framework also sets requirements covering the governance of the platform, the responsibilities of participating parties, and the technical and operational standards for providing the services.
The regulations additionally address data protection and cybersecurity, forming part of the requirements for the secure delivery of Digital Financial Identity services.
The CBE said the initiative is intended to support the expansion of digital financial services and facilitate customers’ access to banking services through digital channels.
